Should I choose MP3 or M4A?

MP3 plays almost anywhere, old players and car stereos included. If your device plays M4A, choose it: that is the original sound, not re-encoded.

Why is MP3 re-encoded?

YouTube doesn't provide MP3. The site makes it from the video's sound, and each conversion changes the sound a little. M4A and Opus are saved as YouTube provides them.

Can I get MP3 from a Short?

Do I need an account?

How do I get just the sound?

Choose an audio option in the list. M4A and Opus are saved exactly as the source provides them, without re-encoding. MP3 is made from that sound at 320 kbit/s.

How do I save a video to my phone?

On iPhone, press Save to Photos under the ready file, then Save Video in the menu. The button is there for photos and for MP4 videos in H.264 or HEVC up to 200 MB. For other files, press Download, open the file in the Files app and use Share, then Save Video. On Android the file goes to Downloads and shows up in the gallery.

Why won't a video download?

Private videos, live streams and videos removed by their author can't be downloaded. If a platform limits access for a while, the status page says so. Try again in a few minutes.

How long is the file kept, and are there limits?

A ready file is available for 24 hours and then deleted. One file can be up to 8 GB. You don't need an account.

What does Plus add on the site?
